The quality of our lives depends on the habits we engage in. We have picked up these habits either subconsciously from our environment, or cultivated them with conscious effort. They either serve us or rob us of experiencing the richness of life.
Getting into an anxious pattern of thinking was something I picked up subconsciously. This habit was so frequent that I started feeling numb and frustrated often.
After reading Atomic Habits by James Clear, I knew that if I don’t create a system of health-enhancing habits, I would never find a way out through the suffering.
“Discipline equals Freedom”, and freedom is what I wanted.
With my brother’s help, I listed out a few habits that I knew would help me on my journey of recovery and healing. I decided to track these habits for 52 weeks (hence, Project 52). Then I gave each habit a score.
For example, running as a habit has a score of 2. The target is to run 5 days a week. So the total score for that habit in a week would be 10. Depending on how many days I ran, I score myself out of 10 on Sunday each week.
The same structure goes for habits like breathwork, reading, writing, workout, yoga, and a few more. All these habits add up to a total score, which currently stands at 105.
I believe I am someone who engages in health-enhancing habits. The actions that I keep taking with this belief are creating energy, power and freedom in my life every day.
There is immense power in the statement — Where there is a will, there's a way.
As difficult and challenging as things might initially seem, believe, and keep moving forward. With short term pain comes long term benefit.
