Using The Platform To Make A Difference
Speaking to a crowd is a chance for us to impact and influence many people at one go.
I’ve always enjoyed using the platform in various fields. One field in particular where I’ve been able to have a greater positive impact is as a Public Speaking Trainer.
I took up the job of a Public Speaking Trainer for Accolades Academy soon after completing college in 2019. For the academic year pre-covid (2019-20), I went to about five different schools in and around Mangalore to train school children. Now that offline classes have resumed, I will be back in action soon!
As human beings, we have an inherent fear of being under the spotlight. Overcoming the fear of speaking to an audience is similar in some way to overcoming the fear of water to be a swimmer — If you’re not in the water, you’ll never learn. Exposure is key.
Public Speaking is an art that anyone can master with practice. The best time for one to develop this skill is during their formative years — in school.
I have the chance to train school children not just to be proficient at Public Speaking, but also to be effective communicators. After all, not everyone is going to deliver speeches to an audience.
The physical state we are in sets the foundation for the effectiveness of our communication. Hence, it is always encouraged to walk and talk. A couple of practices like breathwork, standing with our shoulders back and relaxed, help us deliver better. Cultivating the habit of reading and writing also adds to the process.
Today, we have the tools and resources for improvement at our fingertips. We get to be the best at what we do.
As I resume my job on the second of November, I am looking forward to the learning I can impart and receive.
