The Power Of State
Our life is essentially a set of habits or patterns that have strengthened over time.
I developed a pattern of anxiety that would put me in a state of suffering. One thought would easily build on another and I would quickly end up feeling miserable. This state that I get into would cause me to sit with an inferior posture (chest drooping down, shoulders bent), just making matters worse.
Each one of us goes into states of suffering from time to time. It can be mild or extreme. Once we are here, our body tenses up and our breathing becomes shallow.
The only way to get to the other side is through. Through the pain and through the suffering by changing our state. Although it might feel like moving a mountain, making that change is always in our control. We have the willpower and the capacity to do it. One deep breath at a time.
Along with taking slow deep breaths, broadening our shoulders and pushing our chest forward (a dominant stance) sends more oxygen to the brain and calms our body down. If we are sitting while in a state of suffering, getting up and walking or going for a run can do wonders in giving us clarity and power over what was earlier controlling us. This can be called ‘making your move’.
The most effective method to break patterns is by changing our state. It is only when we are in a peak state (happiness, peace of mind, flow) do we perform and live at our best. This can be cultivated and conditioned, provided we put in the work.
When in a peak state as opposed to a state of suffering, we function with more clarity, grace, and ease. We unleash our potential and take steps towards the goals we set for ourselves while enjoying the moment.
Imagine a powerful You living an unstoppable life a few years from now. This is your future self that was waiting to be unleashed. The faster we ‘make our move’, the faster we will be living the extraordinary life that we deserve.
