If working in teams isn’t fun and a great learning experience, I don’t know what is.
Recently, I worked with a team of six people for a case competition and that was the first time I sat till 3 30 am for an educational activity. It was totally worth it. We bagged second place!
I have had the chance to be a part of teams across fields — sports, music, and education. It has been a great place to shoulder responsibility and imbibe important skills like cooperation and leadership. There is a feeling of lasting happiness when contributing to a cause greater than oneself.
Some Of My Takeaways From Teamwork
Teams don’t comprise members with the same skillset. Each individual brings something unique and special to the table. There is an opportunity to understand what various roles entail and take them up in the future.
The success of a team is built on trust between members. External conflicts and differences of opinion have to be left aside when stepping onto the playing field. Lack of trust between just two people could break the whole team.
Being a team player involves going outside our comfort zones. This includes effectively managing a lack of integrity and individual differences for the greater good of the team. We can play with the cards we are dealt with by focusing on the positives.
Feedback from fellow team members helps us grow as individuals and come back stronger.
Lastly, there is always a need for playfulness and banter. Having a good balance of sincere work and fun makes team activities a wholesome experience. After all, the memories we make are what count.
"Individual commitment to a group effort — that is what makes a team work, a company work, a society work, a civilization work." — Vince Lombardi.
