System vs Goals
We are familiar with the notion that we need to have goals in life. While sometimes we set goals that we end up achieving, there are times when we fail to get the desired result. And this is one major cause for unhappiness.
Where are we going wrong? How can we create lasting happiness?
It is by focusing on our system and not the goals.
If you're a footballer, your goal might be to play for a big club. Your system is how much you practice, take care of health and fitness, and whether or not you work with a coach.
If your goal is to enhance your health, your system is what you eat, how often you exercise, and the quality of your relationships.
While goals are important in giving you direction, your system is what ensures progress. Even in the absence of a particular goal, building a working system will open up possibilities and opportunities you wouldn’t have even imagined.
Upon building a system of health-enhancing habits for myself, I now have more clarity of mind and am able to add more value to the lives of others. The possibility of becoming a life coach has also opened up for me. Apart from this, writing in my journal and reading a few pages of an ebook every day has improved my performance in content writing.
When your focus shifts to your system - something that is in your control, you will not be left disappointed and frustrated as you would upon failing to achieve a goal. With your system, you can alter and refine it until you find one that works.
Today, we have the tools and resources to live the life of our dreams. We know of people who are living such a life, and the best part is that they have left us with clues and strategies which we could use.
In order to live a rich and meaningful life, we have to focus and take care of each of the various aspects of our life, like health, relationships, and career. If we neglect one, flourishing in other areas becomes difficult. So, let us make sure that we build and focus on a system that brings out the best in us.
