This title closely resonates with me.
DHEERAJ rakho… I shall explain why as we go on.
It’s usually convenient for us to take the easy way out. Given a situation, we look to avoid the harder and healthier option. The start of my challenges with OCD and anxiety had me doing this exact thing. I couldn’t stand the fact that I was having obsessive and anxious thoughts or that something was wrong. It all had to be a certain way. Expectations had to be met. What happened when they didn’t? I panicked. I needed a quick fix.
‘Dheeraj’ means ‘patience’ in Hindi and ‘courage’ in Sanskrit. Until recently, I was only familiar with the Sanskrit meaning. For most of my life, I thought ‘courage’ was the only meaning there was. Having both these meanings makes more sense to me now - I have to be patient and at the same time, continue to move forward with courage. Because life is happening for me and not to me.
This is a tiny part of the unknown that I have discovered for myself. And of course, there is still a lot to uncover. Getting to where I am in right now required determination and the constant rekindling of my Inner Fire.
It’s certainly not all rosy now and I don’t know what the future will bring. But I am happy that I see the light more often these days. There’s enough motivation for me to get up and be excited about my day.
There are two ways in which I have discovered what works for me. One, exposing myself to information and insights into what having a healthy life requires me to do; two, going through the experience and living my life.
When I think about life right now, I have this feeling that I am destined to travel this path. I am now more loving and compassionate towards myself. This came with being more patient and courageous. The goal for me was to get better. I stepped out of my comfort zone and took every opportunity to heal.
Once you have a goal in mind, it’s about how much you want to get there and doing all it takes. Remember that it never ever happens overnight. It’s a training process. With the small improvements that you make in whichever field you feel stuck in, you’ll keep getting there, and the progress will be enough to keep you motivated.
For anyone going through a tough time out there, what I can tell you from my journey so far, is that, if you can visualize yourself to be better, you can definitely get there. We have the ability to transcend our limitations and use courage and patience to go right through! With this in mind, let us live a life of celebration and enjoy the process.
