Our Superpower(s)
“The things that make us different, those are our superpowers.” — Lena Waithe
Just like superheroes have superpowers unique to them, so do we. We are called on to use them from time to time. We could have one superpower that defines us or a few that makes us who we are.
Finding them out is a responsibility that each one of us must take.
What are my superpowers?
I have four — Leadership, Resilience, Kindness, Elucidating my ideas coherently.
Leadership: I have taken up leadership positions in school, for sports teams and choirs, and a few events too. When there is a need for facilitation, I like to step up.
Resilience: This is a muscle that has been trained as a result of challenges with my mental health. I am able to recover quickly from overwhelming moments.
Kindness: This is home to me. Being kind has helped me build and maintain friendships, spread positivity, and be there for people in need.
Elucidating my ideas coherently: This is another superpower that I have built over time. The progress that you see with my newsletter is a great example of the same. Although my mind can feel clouded when I’m overwhelmed, I am able to express myself exceedingly well when in my element.
I have been able to identify these superpowers through self-discovery and help from my friends. It feels good to know that I add value to the lives of others using these superpowers.
While having superpowers is great, we must know where the boundaries have to be drawn. We mustn't overdo our strengths. For example, I could unnecessarily put myself in a leadership position when there is already someone else taking it up. This clash could cause problems.
Another benefit of knowing our superpowers is that we can find a career path that best suits us — one where our potential combines with what the world needs. Work will seem like play and we will live a life of balance between responsibility and freedom.
Having superpowers and saving the day using them is our greatest purpose in life.
