Our Greatest Resource
You are the average of the five people you spend the most time with. - Jim Rohn
We spend time and energy on improving the quality of our lives. Does this process become easier when we connect to people who hold us to a higher standard or settle for an “ok” life?
If we are to live an extraordinary life, we have to spend time with those who strive for the same.
My life took a turn when I looked for solutions from the people I admired. My brother was one of them. His discipline and the way he carries himself have accelerated my progress towards a more fulfilling and meaningful life. Living a powerful and impactful life isn’t an option for him. It’s his way of life.
Our behaviours, attitudes, and results are largely influenced by the people we surround ourselves with. They can either become our greatest assets or our greatest liability.
Having a friend who has a negative view of every situation can direct our mind to feel that way. This is the power of our environment.
As individuals, we use up all our willpower to achieve the goals we set for ourselves. But at times, achieving anything can seem like moving a mountain if we don’t have the resources to do so. Our greatest resource in turning this mountain into a molehill is the powerful influence of the people we spend time with on a regular basis.
When our immediate contacts are people who hold us to a higher standard, our chances of accomplishing a task are higher. Since we are prone to emulate others, we easily pick up the habits of those near and dear to us.
If we leave this selection process to chance or fate, we will never end up making the most of our lives. So, we must choose wisely. Love everyone, but be selective when it comes to investing your time and energy in people. If you have to let go of someone, make that decision. Your future self will thank you for it.
Building a team or community that shares common goals and values will certainly bring out the best in us. When we have people encouraging and appreciating one another, we all thrive. Life becomes effortless and we contribute more to making the world a better place.
