No Obstacle Is Too Big
Life feels like a journey in a vehicle that I’m driving.
While driving, one doesn’t frequently have to look at the rearview mirror. Doing so might only result in an accident.
Ideally, while on the road, we mostly keep our focus on what’s ahead, having the destination in mind. We certainly wouldn’t want to think about the destination all the time, because this would mean that we miss out on the experience of the journey.
The road — for most of my journey so far — has been a rough one. I look back at my past (rearview mirror) mostly to remind myself of the resilience I have had to get through the harsh terrain. While it seemed too hard to handle, I kept reminding myself of the fact that the only way forward is through.
Getting past these hurdles (the bad roads) fills me with a sense of accomplishment. It shows me that I am capable of more than I can imagine. It shows me the true power of the human spirit.
The Destination: An Improved Quality Of Life
This is not a fixed place I am going to. It’s just that I will become an expert at driving as I keep going. With the system of habits that I have in place, NO OBSTACLE can put me totally off course.
Initially, I was more agitated to get to the destination because I found it very challenging to stay on the path. That gave me a hard time as my attention was divided. This was like fighting two battles, despite knowing deep down that I have to face whatever comes my way to get to where I want to.
Now, I am facing each bump on the road with more confidence and courage than when I was just learning to drive.
The bad roads, heavy traffic and rains — are a part of the journey. This means that we only become better drivers by going through it all. So, while the destination is there to give us a sense of direction, our focus should be on the next step, and then the next, and so on.
Even as we become better drivers, we will face problems. But now we’ve learned to handle these situations with ease.
Not all roads are bad. There will be amazing people we meet on the way, great opportunities knocking at our door, milestones we will cherish for a lifetime, and much more! When we learn to enjoy and appreciate the journey for what it is, we will be making the most of our lives.
