Master The Art Of Service
In college, I got the chance to teach and conduct activities for kids who were residing in a ‘Home for Children’. Each time I went there, I was amazed by the joy and enthusiasm radiated from their being. I realized the immense value of education and honed important skills in the time I spent with them.
As a public speaking trainer, I was able to be useful in the best possible way - a skill I consider myself to be good at, combined with a passion for training others. When I was in this space, I felt unstoppable.
There is a great sense of fulfilment and satisfaction in being of service. It is a humbling experience to achieve one of the higher goals of life. Life becomes lighter and more peaceful when we build a community around being useful to each other.
Acts of Random Kindness (ARK) are simple ways in which we can make someone smile and brighten their day. These include simple acts - greeting your apartment watchman, saying thank you to the shopkeeper, or holding the door open for someone.
Dogs seem to do this effortlessly. Their presence itself can instantly make you happy! My apartment dog Chinnu is always the first to greet me when I enter my apartment.
We possess certain strengths — like the ability to listen, help out or just be there — that contribute to the lives of others. When we use these strengths from time to time, we create the change we want to see in the world.
To master the art of service, we need to first master our own lives — the things that are largely in our control. There is nothing more fulfilling than being a high performing individual.
I have made it my goal to not settle for mediocrity. When I myself am able to perform at my best, I will contribute so much more to the lives of others, effortlessly. For this, it is required of me to challenge myself every day and make improvements, however small these improvements might be.
This should be our ultimate goal — work on personal growth constantly and keep changing the world in small ways. By doing this, we learn through practical experience. We become more confident, and there is greater meaning and purpose in our lives.
