“Life is suffering, so get your act together.”
This quote by Jordan B Peterson is by far the most important piece of advice that I have come across. To get our act together is to take action. By doing so, we can live a life of exuberance, fulfil our heart’s desires, and persist in the face of adversity.
Simply put, getting our act together is to do the things that will keep us going in the direction of our goals, whether they are micro-goals or long term goals.
Life is suffering for everyone. Even to those who are at the top of their game. But what is it that they did different from us to get to where they are now?
THEY GOT THEIR ACT TOGETHER.
We dream of living our best life. Realising that we are capable of manifesting our dreams is taking the first step in that direction. There is this extraordinary capacity within us to reach for the stars and not settle for mediocrity.
We Are The Authors Of Our Lives
In my case, I was at a point where things were going downhill. Getting my act together involved doing the things that would improve my health over time. This helped me come to a place where I feel more like myself. I am now able to engage in my day-to-day activities with less resistance and more flow. My habits include breathwork, exercise, meditation, and a gratitude practice.
Whether it is to get to a state of normalcy or to be at our best, we need to take action. Losing motivation or feeling boredom doing the same thing is natural. So to keep up the consistency even on the days that we feel lazy, we must simply show up to our habit. This persistence will eventually compound to create a huge positive shift in achieving our goals.
Enjoying each step of the way will make the results all the more worthwhile. Focus on the process and fall in love with it, and the results will take care of themselves.
By practising gratitude, we develop our enthusiasm for life and learn to appreciate the good things around us. This way, we will get up each day ready to start afresh.
So to help us take that next step in faith, I’ll share a famous quote by Steve Jobs: “You can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future. You have to trust in something — your gut, destiny, life, karma, whatever.”
