A Change In Context - Trip to Shirva
Last weekend I took a trip to Shirva, a town in the Udupi district of India.
Having spent a long time in one context — routine life — going out of context was just the break I needed. A two-day trip was perfect for the mind and body to loosen up from the routine of life.
The trip was filled with good company, long drives, delicious food, feel-good music, and best of all, serene places. We looked to make it as eventful as possible and started off by visiting Sorkol Lake. The warmth and peace of this open space set us up for an exciting day ahead.
The second stop was Dhanush Teertha, Bantakal. The view from the top was a treat to the eyes.
Following this, we had lunch at Hakuna Matata, Manipal. The last stop for the day was at Salumarada Thimmaka Tree Park, Manipal. This was an ideal end after a heavy lunch. We got to walk amidst beautiful flora and be one with nature.
The last day was spent visiting some family members, playing badminton, and having long meaningful conversations.
A change in place and context from time to time is necessary. It is one of the best self-care practices that we can give ourselves. We get to experience the vastness of life and make enjoyment and playfulness a priority.
This practice also helps us gain clarity and perspective. Following my return to Mangalore, I was able to approach my challenges with a fresh perspective and rekindled inner fire. I surely look to give myself these longer breaks on a more regular basis going forward.
I am grateful to my friend Jesvita Quadras and her family and friends for hosting me.
